The 10-yard dumpster includes 2 tons, which is 4,000 lb. Concrete is the material that tests a 10-yard. Normal concrete weighs roughly 4,000 lb per solid cubic yard, so 2 tons is reached at about one solid cubic yard, or 2 to 3 cubic yards of broken pieces with air gaps. That is why heavy loads stop halfway up the walls.
Worked example: You break out a 10 × 12 ft patio, 4 inches thick. That is 40 cubic feet, about 1.5 cubic yards solid, or roughly 6,000 lb. The 10-yard includes 4,000 lb, so expect about 2,000 lb over: 1 ton × $75 = $75.
Check your own shingle bundle label or material weight. How weight is billed and proven.
Will a 10-yard dumpster fit in my driveway?
The 10-yard dumpster sits on a footprint of about 12 by 8 feet. Plan for a clear, level spot at least 15 feet long and 10 feet wide, plus a straight approach for the truck of roughly 60 feet and about 23 feet of overhead clearance from wires and branches. Our drivers set wooden boards under the rails to protect concrete and asphalt.
- Driveway placement on private property needs no city permit in most cases. Street placement can. See placement and permits.
- Keep it off septic lids, sprinkler heads, soft yard and concrete poured in the last few weeks.
- Move cars and open gates before the truck arrives. A blocked drop is a $125 dry-run fee.
Approach length and overhead clearance are typical roll-off truck figures; the driver confirms on site.
Is a 10-yard too small or too big for my job?
Step up to the 15-yard when the job is bulky rather than heavy, like a full garage. The 15-yard is 4 feet longer and 1 foot taller, includes 2.5 tons, and also takes concrete and dirt. For a light one-room cleanout, the 10-yard is enough and costs less to rent.
Guessing too small costs a second haul, priced as a new rental. Guessing too big costs only the difference in base price. When torn between two sizes, the larger one is usually cheaper overall. Compare: 15-yard dumpster · all sizes

What will my 10-yard bill include?
Your 10-yard includes 2 tons (4,000 lb) and 7 days. Weight over that is $75 per ton, billed by the exact pound from the certified landfill scale ticket, which comes with your final invoice 3 to 5 business days after pickup. If the ticket shows 500 lb over 4,000 lb, you pay 0.25 ton × $75 = $18.75.
- Extra days: $25 each
- Mattress, tire or Freon appliance: $50 each
- Blocked drop or overfill: $125 dry run
What can't go in the dumpster?
Hazardous chemicals, wet paint and batteries can't go in any Hayes Bros dumpster. Mattresses, tires and appliances that hold Freon (fridges, freezers, window AC units) can go in for $50 each, because the disposal site handles them separately. Most household junk, furniture, wood, drywall, shingles and yard debris are fine.

10-yard dumpster questions
How many pickup loads fit in a 10-yard dumpster?
About 3 to 5 loads from an 8-ft truck bed loaded level. Each level bed holds about 2 to 3 cubic yards.
Can I fill a 10-yard dumpster to the top with concrete?
No. Concrete, dirt, brick and rock can only fill the 10-yard halfway up the walls. A full 10-yard of concrete would weigh far more than a roll-off truck can legally haul on Texas roads.
Is a 10-yard dumpster big enough for a bathroom remodel?
For one standard bathroom, usually. Tile, a tub, a vanity and drywall from a 5 × 8 ft bathroom fit with room to spare. Two bathrooms or a cast-iron tub plus tile floors is the point to consider a 15-yard.
