The 15-yard dumpster includes 2.5 tons, which is 5,000 lb. Shingles are what push a 15-yard over. Three-tab and architectural shingles often weigh 60 to 80 lb per bundle at 3 bundles per square, so one roof square is about 180 to 240 lb. The 2.5 tons (5,000 lb) included covers about 20 squares of 80-lb bundles for one layer.
Worked example: Your roof is 22 squares of one layer, with bundles labeled 80 lb. 22 × 240 lb = 5,280 lb. The 15-yard includes 5,000 lb, so you pay for 280 lb: 0.14 ton × $75 = $10.50.
Check your own shingle bundle label or material weight. How weight is billed and proven.
Will a 15-yard dumpster fit in my driveway?
The 15-yard dumpster sits on a footprint of about 16 by 7.5 feet. Plan for a clear, level spot at least 19 feet long and 10 feet wide, plus a straight approach for the truck of roughly 60 feet and about 23 feet of overhead clearance from wires and branches. Our drivers set wooden boards under the rails to protect concrete and asphalt.
- Driveway placement on private property needs no city permit in most cases. Street placement can. See placement and permits.
- Keep it off septic lids, sprinkler heads, soft yard and concrete poured in the last few weeks.
- Move cars and open gates before the truck arrives. A blocked drop is a $125 dry-run fee.
Approach length and overhead clearance are typical roll-off truck figures; the driver confirms on site.
Is a 15-yard too small or too big for my job?
Drop to the 10-yard for one room or a small heavy load. Step up to the 20-yard for a whole-house cleanout, a kitchen remodel or a roof over about 20 squares. The 20-yard adds 6 feet of length and includes 3 tons, but it does not take concrete or dirt.
Guessing too small costs a second haul, priced as a new rental. Guessing too big costs only the difference in base price. When torn between two sizes, the larger one is usually cheaper overall. Compare: 10-yard dumpster · 20-yard dumpster · all sizes

What will my 15-yard bill include?
Your 15-yard includes 2.5 tons (5,000 lb) and 7 days. Weight over that is $75 per ton, billed by the exact pound from the certified landfill scale ticket, which comes with your final invoice 3 to 5 business days after pickup. If the ticket shows 500 lb over 5,000 lb, you pay 0.25 ton × $75 = $18.75.
- Extra days: $25 each
- Mattress, tire or Freon appliance: $50 each
- Blocked drop or overfill: $125 dry run
What can't go in the dumpster?
Hazardous chemicals, wet paint and batteries can't go in any Hayes Bros dumpster. Mattresses, tires and appliances that hold Freon (fridges, freezers, window AC units) can go in for $50 each, because the disposal site handles them separately. Most household junk, furniture, wood, drywall, shingles and yard debris are fine.

15-yard dumpster questions
What fits in a 15-yard dumpster?
About 5 to 7 pickup loads: a two-car garage of household items, a small one-layer roof, or the flooring from most of a house. It is long enough for sofas and mattresses (mattresses carry a $50 fee each).
Can I put dirt in a 15-yard dumpster?
Dirt can fill the 15-yard up to half the wall height, about 2.25 feet. Dirt and caliche are heavy, so the half line keeps the load legal to haul. A clean load of only dirt or only concrete qualifies for clean-fill pricing; ask when you call.
Is a 15-yard dumpster enough for a roof?
For a single layer up to about 20 squares with 80-lb bundles, usually. For two layers, or a larger roof, book a 20 or 30-yard instead. See the roofing dumpster guide for the math.
How long is a 15-yard dumpster rental?
7 days are included. Extra days are $25 each. Call before day 7 to extend or to schedule an early pickup.
